On Oct 19, Seodaemun Branch (Branch Manager Oh Yoona) signed an MOA with Dabitnoori (Director Lee Sook Yeon).

Both parties agreed to organize projects and meetings for research on multiculturalism every quarter; conduct workshops and peace education for Koreans, immigrants and single parents; strengthen collaboration and networking between the local branches of the two organizations; and share project progress and outcomes by hosting an annual conference.

Branch Manager Oh Yoona remarked, “Since its initial launch in 2006, policies to support multicultural families have facilitated multicultural projects around the country. However, the Korean society still lacks mechanisms to increase its capacity to embrace multicultural diversity. The majority of married immigrant women face emotional scars from the outdated programs developed 20 years ago. We are committed to tackling prejudice and discrimination against the next generation immigrants through IWPG’s peace education, aiming to foster a more inclusive mindset among Koreans.”

Lee Sook Yeon, Director of Dabitnoori, said, “Through the IWPG’s project, which promotes a more inclusive mindset on multiculturalism, I believe multicultural families can flourish and integrate into society. To achieve this goal, the government and local authorities should communicate closely and work together to implement legal and systemic improvements.”
